The program has received approval continuously since that time. Registry information can be retrieved on demand to study treatment outcomes and to evaluate patient care. In addition to CoC patterns of care studies, the registry also researches special topics for physicians' publications, research projects and management planning. All cancer patients entered into the Cancer Registry database are followed for life in an attempt to better understand the disease and improve cancer treatments.
- Clinical Nutrition - Diet is an important part of cancer treatment. Eating the right kinds of food before, during and after treatment can help the patient feel better and stay stronger. Registered dietitians assess the nutritional status of patients. Following the nutrition assessment, the registered dietitian provides counseling and follow-up to help maintain and improve the patient's nutritional status.
- Inpatient Care - Heartland Regional Medical Center provides inpatient oncology management. This medical-surgical unit is staffed by registered nurses and licensed practical nurses who have received specialized training in the administration of chemotherapy medications and cancer care.
