The mission of the Northwest Missouri Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program is to enhance access to quality healthcare, particularly primary and preventative care, by growing and supporting Missouri’s health care workforce. We strive to accomplish this mission through:

Recruitment of students into healthcare careers

Clinical training for medical students, nursing students, and other allied health professionals

Continuing education for current healthcare professionals.

Community health education activities
Established in 1996, the Northwest Missouri AHEC is located in St. Joseph and serves 19 counties. It is part of the Missouri Area Health Education Center system, which consists of six other regional centers covering all counties in Missouri, and three program offices: A. T. Still University/ Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine in Columbia and St. Louis University.
