Description
Complementary therapies are supportive methods used to complement conventional cancer treatments. Some complementary therapies may help relieve certain symptoms of cancer, relieve side effects of conventional cancer therapy and improve a patient’s sense of well-being. Activities are provided to treat the whole person — mind, body and spirit — to enhance the quality of the survivor’s life during and after their experience with cancer.
Therapies are provided by licensed student therapists from Vatterott College Massage Therapy Clinic Services, under the supervision of licensed massage therapy instructors Mary Lawrence and Rhonda Moore.
Massage therapy is a non-invasive manipulation of the body’s soft tissues that has many benefits. It is recognized as a complementary therapy to help reduce stress, anxiety and pain in people with cancer. It brings a feeling of well being and relaxation for many. Chair massage sessions are from 15-30 minutes each. Reflexology is a treatment that applies hand pressure to specific areas of the feet to ease a variety of problems and balance the flow of vital energy through the body. Sessions are 30-45 minutes each.
